Specific Opportunities
Postdoctoral scholars:
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher who is well trained and passionate about science to join our team. Current projects focus on investigating the molecular mechanisms of plant immunology and developing innovative strategies to engineer disease-resistant crops. Learn more about our research at https://maxiyulab.com/research/
Primary Responsibilities
•Design and perform experiments to dissect plant innate immune signaling pathways using biochemical, molecular, and genetic approaches.
•Use protein biochemistry, phosphorylation and protease cleavage assays, proteomics (LC-MS/MS), and imaging to characterize immune regulators.
•Conduct mutational analyses, protein interaction studies, and functional assays in plant and/or cell-based systems.
•Prepare manuscripts, contribute to grant proposals, and present findings at conferences, seminars, and departmental meetings.
•Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in molecular biology, biochemistry, and genetic techniques.
Required Qualifications
•Ph.D. in plant biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, or a related field.
•Self-motivated, passionate about science, and creative.
•Evidence of independent thinking, problem-solving skills, and scientific productivity.
•Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
•Strong background in biochemical and molecular analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
•Experience in plant–pathogen interactions, plant immunity, or innate immune signaling.
•Experience with genetic engineering (CRISPR, RNAi, VIGS, transient assays), confocal imaging, and proteomics.
•Familiarity with Arabidopsis, Nicotiana, or other plant model systems.
•Experience with wheat, maize, or soybean is a plus.Experience mentoring students in a laboratory setting.
Interested applicants should send the following materials in a single PDF to xiyu25@ksu.edu: Cover letter describing your research experience, interests, and career goals; Curriculum vitae; Contact information for three references.
Applications will be reviewed immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Graduate students:
We always welcome students interested in rotating and/or performing their graduate work in our lab. The lab currently participates in the plant pathology, genetics, and integrated molecular life sciences programs. To inquire about a potential rotation, please email Xiyu.
Undergraduate students:
We always welcome students interested in doing research work in our lab (for research credit or not), particularly if you’re thinking about going to graduate school in the future. To inquire about a potential position, please email Xiyu.
