Jinan grew up in South Korea and studied Plant Bioscience at Kyungpook National University, where she began her research in plant genetics through CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing in rice. She later joined the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in the Philippines, where she worked on rice biofortification for zinc and iron using GWAS and QTL mapping. During her master’s at Kansas State University, she conducted research at the USDA Central Small Grains Genotyping Lab, studying the genetic architecture of Fusarium head blight resistance in wheat by pyramiding three major resistance QTLs.

Jinan is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Genetics at Kansas State University, with research interests in integrating quantitative genetics, genomics, and plant breeding approaches for crop improvement. Outside of research, she enjoys reading, traveling, and watching movies.
